When you’re in an industry like Interior Design, Event Planning, Stationery Design, or any other custom service where you need to use Dubsado to issue a quote-like proposal, you’ll love this hack for allowing your clients to move forward on a proposal/contract/invoice even if they don’t select a package or add-ons! And as an extra bonus, it’s SUPER simple!
ONE
Insert a package at the top or bottom of the proposal. The line item should say “Thank you!” for a price of $0.
TWO
Mark the package “pre-selected”.
THREE
Then delete all content out of the text box.
FOUR
Save & Close.
Done!
Your client won’t even know it’s there, but the proposal will let them move forward. All that changes is a “thank you!” line item is added to their invoice.
Hi Cait! Love this trick. I’m trying to figure out how to use this or what I’d need it for (because I love the idea). Wouldn’t the invoice just be $0 then (and we don’t want that)? I’m a stationery designer by the way. 🙂
Great question! Sometimes, when people are doing a “quote like” proposal, they load up alllllll of the package selections on the INVOICE, and then put the “Invoice Item Names & Amounts” smart field ({{job.invoice | packageItems:true}}) inside of the proposal INSTEAD of doing packages. It’s just a different way of customizing the proposal. By doing it this way, the client confirms their order without having the option to edit anything, their contract still shows everything they are purchasing, and the invoice populates with all of the things the business owner customized on it. This would be the case where you need this hack, because the proposal requires that SOME kind of package is selected!
If, however, you are using the package feature within the proposal and you’re customizing the package options within it, then you wouldn’t need this!
Another use case is if a public proposal is attached to a scheduler where the items on the proposal are optional. They still need to be able to submit the proposal to get to the scheduler deposit invoice!
